Legal
Terms of Service
Effective 9 October 2026
1. This agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Teckam, based in India ("Teckam", "we", "us"). They cover your use of the Splitnor apps and splitnor.com (together, "Splitnor"). By creating an account or using Splitnor, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Splitnor.
2. What Splitnor is (and isn't)
Splitnor is a record-keeping tool. It helps you record shared expenses, split them and see who owes whom. It also suggests the fewest payments needed to settle up.
- Splitnor doesn't hold, send or receive money. It isn't a bank, wallet, payment service or lender. When you "record a payment", you're noting a payment you made some other way.
- Balances are only as accurate as what people enter. Splitnor calculates them from the expenses and payments users record. Amounts are shown in each user's chosen currency symbol and are not converted between currencies.
- Splitnor doesn't give financial, tax or legal advice, and it doesn't enforce debts between users.
3. Who can use Splitnor
You must be at least 13 years old. If you're under 18, or under the age of majority where you live, you may only use Splitnor with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms for you. You may not use Splitnor if the law prohibits it.
4. Your account
- Give accurate information, use an email address you control, and verify it when asked.
- Keep your password secret. You're responsible for what happens on your account. Tell us straight away at support@splitnor.com if you think someone else has accessed it.
- One person per account. Don't create accounts for other people or impersonate anyone.
5. Your content
"Your content" means everything you add to Splitnor: expenses, payments, notes, comments, group details, photos and imported data.
- You own your content. You give us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, process and display it only as needed to run Splitnor. That includes showing it to the people you share it with. This licence ends when your content is deleted, except for copies that other users still need (see section 10).
- You're responsible for your content. Make sure you have the right to upload it and that it's accurate to the best of your knowledge.
- Shared content is shared. Members of a group can see, and in some cases edit, the expenses in that group. The people involved in an expense can edit or delete it, and every change is recorded in the activity feed.
- Imports: when you import data from another service such as Splitwise, you confirm you're allowed to use that data and to add the people it names.
6. Adding other people
You can add friends and group members by email, by invite link, or by matching names during an import. When you add someone:
- Only add people you actually share costs with, who would reasonably expect to hear from you.
- We'll send people who aren't on Splitnor yet one invitation email. Don't use invitations to spam or harass anyone.
- Invite links let anyone who has them preview and join a group. Share them carefully. The group owner can reset a link at any time.
7. Acceptable use
Don't use Splitnor to:
- harass, threaten, shame or abuse anyone, including through expense descriptions, comments or images;
- record fake debts, or pressure someone into paying money they don't owe;
- upload unlawful, hateful, sexually explicit or infringing content, or content that invades someone's privacy;
- break the law, including money laundering, fraud or sanctions laws;
- access accounts or data that aren't yours;
- probe, scrape, overload or disrupt our systems, or get around any security or rate limits;
- copy, resell or reverse engineer Splitnor, except where the law allows it.
We may remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. Where reasonable, we'll tell you why.
8. Our app and brand
Splitnor, its software, design, logo and name belong to Teckam. We give you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app for its intended purpose while you follow these terms. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without any obligation to you.
9. Changes to the service
Splitnor is currently free. We may add, change or remove features over time, and may introduce paid features in the future. If we do, we'll be clear about what's paid before you're charged anything. We may change these terms. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, unless the change is needed sooner for legal or security reasons. Continuing to use Splitnor after the change means you accept it.
10. Ending your account
- You can delete your account at any time in Account → Settings → Delete Account.
- Expenses and payments you shared with other people stay in their groups so their balances remain correct, but they are no longer linked to your account.
- Please settle up with people before you leave.
- We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if the law requires it, or if your account creates risk for others.
- We may also close accounts that have been inactive and unverified for a long time.
- If we end Splitnor altogether, we'll give you reasonable notice so you can export your data.
Sections 5, 8 and 11 to 16 continue to apply after your account ends.
11. Disclaimers
We work hard to keep Splitnor reliable and accurate, but it is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties that Splitnor will be uninterrupted, error-free or always available, or that balances are correct. This applies to balances because they depend on what users enter. We're not responsible for disputes between users about money, or for what users do with information shared with them.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows:
- Teckam won't be liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for lost profits, data or goodwill.
- Our total liability for any claim relating to Splitnor is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or ₹5,000 (or its equivalent in your currency).
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, such as liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
13. Indemnity
If someone brings a claim against Teckam because of your content or your breach of these terms, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs, to the extent the law allows. This doesn't apply where the claim was caused by our own fault.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Before starting any formal dispute, please contact us at support@splitnor.com so we can try to resolve it informally. If we can't, the courts of India will have jurisdiction. If you live in a country whose consumer laws give you the right to bring claims in your local courts, or to rely on your local law, you keep that right.
15. App Store and Google Play
If you downloaded Splitnor from Apple's App Store or Google Play, these terms are between you and Teckam, not Apple or Google.
- Teckam alone is responsible for the app and its support.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If the app fails to meet an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, which may refund the purchase price (if any). Apple has no other warranty obligation.
- Apple isn't responsible for any claims relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance or intellectual-property claims.
- You confirm you're not in a country subject to US government embargo, and not on any US list of prohibited parties.
- Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
- You must also follow the store's own terms.
16. General
These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Splitnor.
- If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
- If we don't enforce a term straight away, we haven't waived it.
- You can't transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
- We aren't responsible for delays caused by events outside our reasonable control.
