How can we help?

Splitting expenses

What are the ways to split an expense?

Equally, by exact amounts, or by percentage. With exact amounts the shares must add up to the total; with percentages they must add up to 100%. Splitnor won't save a split that doesn't add up.

Can I leave someone out of a group expense?

Yes. When adding the expense, untick anyone who wasn't part of it. They stay in the group but aren't charged for that expense.

Can I add an expense with just one friend?

Yes. Add the expense with a friend instead of a group. It counts towards your one-on-one balance with them, and still shows in your total on the home screen.

Two people paid for one thing. How do I record it?

Each expense has a single payer. Record it as two expenses — one per payer — or as one expense plus a payment between the two of you.

Can I add a date, category or notes?

Yes. Every expense has a date, a category and optional notes. Categories power the spending breakdown in Spending Analytics.

Who can edit or delete an expense?

The person who added it, the person who paid, or anyone included in the split. Every change appears in the activity feed so everyone involved can see it.

Can I comment on an expense?

Yes. Open the expense and add a comment. Everyone included in the expense can read it, and it shows up in their activity feed.

I deleted an expense by mistake. Can I get it back?

No — deleted expenses can't be restored. Add it again with the same details, and the balances will be back where they were.

Settling up

How does "Settle up" decide who pays whom?

It looks at every balance in the group and suggests the smallest number of payments that clears them all, instead of repaying each expense one by one.

Does Splitnor move money?

No. Pay each other however you normally do — bank transfer, a payment app, cash — then record the payment in Splitnor so the balance updates for everyone.

How do I record a payment?

Open the group and tap Settle up, or open a friend and record a payment. Enter the amount, and optionally how you paid and a note.

Can I pay back only part of what I owe?

Yes. Record whatever amount you paid. Your balance goes down by that amount and the rest stays owed.

I recorded a payment by mistake.

Open the payment from the group or activity feed. You can edit the amount or details, or delete it.

Does Splitnor convert currencies?

No. Your currency setting chooses the symbol shown on your screens; it doesn't convert amounts. A balance of 100 shows as €100.00 for someone using euros and $100.00 for someone using dollars.

Can I download a summary of a group?

Yes. Export a group or friend report as a PDF or CSV and share it from your phone. Spending Analytics also shows spending by category and by person.

Groups & friends

How do I invite people to a group?

Open the group's settings and share its invite link. People can see who's in the group before joining. Only the group owner can manage the link.

Can I stop an invite link from working?

Yes. The group owner can reset or turn off the invite link in Group settings. Old links stop working straight away.

Can I add a friend who doesn't use Splitnor yet?

Yes. Invite them by email or send your personal invite link. You can add expenses with them right away, and once they sign up you're connected automatically.

How do I remove someone from a group?

The group owner can go to Group settings → Add or Remove Members. Anyone else can leave a group themselves from Group settings.

Why can't I leave a group I created?

The owner can't leave their own group. You can archive it instead once all its expenses are settled.

How do I archive a group?

The owner can archive a group from Group settings → Archive Group. Groups with unsettled balances can't be archived, so nobody loses track of what they owe — settle up first.

Can I mute, block or remove a friend?

Yes. Open the friend and go to their settings. You can mute notifications about them, block them, or remove them as a friend.

Your account

Can I bring my data over from Splitwise?

Yes, one group at a time. In Splitwise, open the group and export it as a spreadsheet (CSV). Then in Splitnor go to Account → Import from Splitwise, upload the file, choose a group (or create a new one) and match each Splitwise name to a person. Expenses and payments come across, so balances carry over. More about switching.

I didn't get the verification email.

Check your spam or promotions folder. The link is valid for 24 hours. If it has expired or never arrived, email us and we'll help.

I forgot my password.

Tap "Forgot password" on the sign-in screen and we'll email you a reset link. It's valid for one hour.

How do I change my password?

Go to Account → Change Password. For your security, you'll be signed out on your other devices.

Can I change my email address?

Not in the app at the moment. Email us from your current address and we'll help.

Can I change my currency?

You choose your display currency once, so pick the one you think in. It only changes the symbol you see — amounts aren't converted.

How do I control notifications?

Go to Account → Notifications. You can turn push and email notifications on or off for each type of update.

How do I turn on dark mode?

Go to Account → Settings and switch on Dark Mode.

Is Splitnor free?

Yes. Splitnor is free on iPhone and Android.

Privacy & safety

Who can see my expenses?

Only the people in that group or expense. Nothing you add is ever made public.

Does Splitnor sell my data or show ads?

No. We don't sell your data, show ads, or use tracking tools. See our privacy policy for details.

Does Splitnor need my bank or card details?

No. Splitnor never asks for bank or card details, because it doesn't move money.

Someone added me without asking.

You can leave the group, or block or remove that person from their friend settings. If you're not a Splitnor user and want your details removed, email us.

How do I delete my account?

Go to Account → Settings → Delete Account. Expenses you shared stay in the group so others' balances remain correct, but they're no longer linked to you. See our privacy policy.
